Cinque Terre, You Had Me At Buon Journo

Wow, wow, wow... is all I can say. We just got to Venice but we need to update you on our stay in Cinque Terre. We checked into the Hotel Margherita which was... interesting (the only non-wow factor of our time in the village). The room was not bad at all but the stay was not totally comfortable. I'm guessing that the family run business weren't into having the gays stay at their establishment... but whatever. It was probably better than most of the hotels available.

We went exploring as soon as we got there. The pictures speak for themselves. These villages (5 of them, we were in Montorosso) were jaw-dropping... cut into cliffs and winding around the coast line. We have literally hundreds of pictures that we would like to have uploaded but it would have taken too long (and I'm guessing boring after awhile. The towns look remarkably similar unless you have explored them).

We're also learning to stick to what we know, re; food. Normally I am totally into seafood, and Montorosso is known for it. What I have learned is that ordering seafood means I will have to dissect my meal (all skin, bones, eyes, tentacles, etc. will be included) and it will be abnormally salty. Ryan has also learned a few lessons. The beef tastes somewhat funky, and the 'it's like bacon' translates into the white pork fat on his plate in the picture below.

We went and dipped our toes into the Mediterranean the first night we were there. It was remarkably warm and extremely rough. The day we got there (like we said in the last posting) was very stormy, and the waves were spectacular.

I could go on and on about this place. It is a must see if you ever make the trip over. One of the most fun things we did is hike the trail that links the towns, about 11 kilometers. Some of the trail is a bit sketchy... we contemplated going the first day in the rain and glad we didn't. There is a sea taxi which we took back, rather than hiking all of the way back.

I would write more but it is late, and tomorrow is going to come early. We have a reservation at some sort of palace tomorrow morning. Love you all. Hope you are well.
